Bueno, tras un
par de semanas de estancia en Ras-al-kaimah (RAK) trabajando en el hotel que ya
os mencioné, os cuelgo algunas imágenes de los alrededores del alojamiento para
empleados donde tengo habitación así como de los del hotel, que ya veréis, son mucho
más bonitos y prefabricados. Aquí la ciudad está en un momento de estancamiento
tras una inyección económica inicial que arrancó muchas obras y negocios y que
debido al declive actual (que también se ha notado muchísimo aquí) ha dejado
imágenes de gruas y edificios a medio terminar que a continuación os enseño.
Los contrastes en este país son evidentes en muchas pequeñas cosas que uno de
fuera puede notar a simple vista pero que a una persona de aquí le resultará de
lo más normal. Un recinto muy verde en medio del desierto o un edificio enorme
en medio de la nada… No sé, a medida que vaya adjuntando algunas imágenes ya os
haréis una idea de a lo que me refiero.
Aparte, el
viernes pasado formé parte del equipo de mujeres que ejecutamos una boda local en
el centro de convenciones del hotel, en la que sólo están invitadas las mujeres
y que constituye un ritual muy peculiar y diferente en costumbres.
Personalmente, fue una experiencia muy interesante porqué pude estar en el
escenario de algo muy distinto a mi cultura y ver con mis propios ojos los
atuendos y las caras de mujeres que en su día a día andan por la calle
escondidas debajo de las túnicas negras, que por cierto tienen un nombre que
ahora no recuerdo pero ya os diré.
De momento en el
alojamiento no tengo Internet. En el trabajo tampoco porqué no hago ningún tipo
de tarea de oficina así que no tengo acceso a ordenadores ni conexión de ningún
tipo. Móvil tampoco, estoy muy desconectada del mundo, pero bueno, esperemos
que poco a poco podamos adquirir mejores condiciones y próximamente una
conexión decente dentro del edificio. Mientrastanto, le tendré que pedir a mi
pobre compañera de habitación que me preste diez minutos de la suya para
contactar con el mundo…Esto de tener un blog, ahora mismo, se hace
verdaderamente difícil!

First impressions
Well, after a week of work in the
Ras-al-kaimah (RAK) hotel that I told you, here I attach you some pictures of
the surroundings of the staff accomodation where I have my room as well as the
surroundings of the hotel that, as you will see, are a lot more beautiful and
prefabricated. Here, the city is in a break after an economical push that had a
few years ago and that got plenty construction and businesses started. But
because of the current economical recesion (which has had a big impact here as
well) has left images of cranes and buldings half way as I show you. Contrasts
in this country are evident in so many little things that someone from abroad
would realize but maybe from the locals is nothing more than normal. A big green
area in the middle of the desert or a huge building in the middle of nowhere...
I don’t know, the more I show you the more you will understand what I mean.
Besides, last
Friday I was part of the women’s team who developed a local wedding in the
hotel’s convention centre, in which are only invited women and is itself a very
different and particular ritual. Personally, it was for me a very interesting
experience because I got the change to be in a culturally different ocasion
from mine and I could see with my eyes the costumes and faces of women that in
a daily basis are covered by those black tunics (which, by the way, have a name
that I do not remember right now but I will tell you eventually).
So far I have got no Internet in the
accomodation. Neither at work because I do no office tasks so I have no access
to computers or any kind of network. Neither from a mobile phone. I am really
disconnected from outside but it’s
ok, let’s see bit by bit (by the end of the month) if we can achieve better
conditions and eventually a working Internet connection indoor. Meanwhile I
will have to ask my roommate to let me hers for ten minutes to be in touch with
“the world”... Having a blog at the moment is trully difficult!
